Why it made our lists

  • Gifts for artists and crafters

For someone who wants to try whittling with everything in one box. Two knives, a spoon blank and cut-resistant gloves. The gloves are size S, so larger hands need a separate pair.

  • Gifts for DIYers

Two carving knives, a wood blank and cut-resistant gloves, so a beginner can carve a Celtic love spoon with nothing else to buy. The gloves are size S, so larger hands need another pair.

What it is

A beginner whittling kit for carving a wooden Celtic love spoon: two carving knives and a wood blank for the spoon, plus cut-resistant safety gloves in size S.

A beginner wood carving kit for making a Celtic-style love spoon from a pre-cut basswood blank. It has a straight whittling knife for shaping the outside and a hooked spoon knife for hollowing the bowl, both with high-carbon steel blades and ash handles. A leather strop and polishing compound keep the blades sharp, and sandpaper finishes the surface. A printed guide and video walk through each step, and a pair of small cut-resistant gloves comes in the bundle.
