Why it made our lists

  • Gifts for book lovers

For a reader who wants an e-reader not tied to one bookstore, since BOOX devices can run several reading apps. It has more settings than a Kindle or Kobo, which some readers will find fussy.

What it is

A 6-inch E Ink reader with a 300 PPI paper-like screen and a front light, in a suitcase-inspired design with four colour options. The standard bundle is priced here; a bundle with the InkSense Plus stylus costs more.

A 6-inch e-ink reader running Android 11 with the Google Play Store, so it can run Kindle, Kobo and other reading apps rather than being tied to one shop. The 300 ppi screen has a front light adjustable from warm to cool. Storage expands with a microSD card, and there is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB-C. A stylus with pressure levels is offered in a bundle for notes. Battery life runs to days per charge.
