Why it made our lists

  • Christmas gifts in the USBest on a budget

A seedy finishing seasoning from a New York spice company, good on eggs, salmon or noodles. For the person who puts everything seasoning on everything. Easy to tuck into a stocking.

  • Secret Santa gift ideasBest on a budget

A seedy finishing seasoning for eggs, salmon, noodles or a drink rim. A cheap, useful pick for a low-limit exchange or a coworker who cooks. It goes on at the end, not into the pan.

What it is

A seedy finishing seasoning from New York spice company Burlap & Barrel, made to use beyond bagels: on salmon, noodles, eggs, a drink rim or ice cream. Sold as a single jar.

A coarse finishing seasoning in the everything-bagel style, with whole sesame, blue poppy seeds, pearl salt, dried garlic and onion, plus caraway and cumin. It is meant to be sprinkled on at the end for texture rather than cooked in: bagels and eggs, roast salmon, sesame noodles, a Bloody Mary rim or even vanilla ice cream. It comes in a small glass jar or a larger refill container for heavy users.
