Why it made our lists
Gifts for gardenersWorth the splurge
For a grandparent or apartment dweller who wants fresh basil without a yard. Replacement plant pods are an ongoing cost, so it suits someone who will keep it going.
An indoor herb garden with a timed grow light and three plant pods. For a mom who cooks and has no yard or garden. Refill the tank every few weeks; replacement pods are an ongoing cost.
What it is
An indoor herb garden with a grow light on a timer and a water tank that holds three plant pods. The tank needs refilling every few weeks.
A countertop indoor garden that grows three plants at a time from pre-seeded soil pods. A built-in LED lamp on extendable arms runs on its own cycle and a water tank feeds the roots, so the main job is topping up water every few weeks when the float indicator drops. It ships with three basil pods, and the maker sells many other plant varieties, or you can use your own seeds.
