LifeStraw Peak Series Straw

What it is

A personal water filter straw for drinking from streams or filtering from a bottle. Rated for about 4,000 litres. Threaded cap fits standard 28 mm bottles and gravity hoses. Mountain Blue or Dark Mountain Gray; 2-packs are $44.95.

A personal water filter shaped like a fat straw, about 19.5 cm long and 65 g. You drink through it straight from a stream or lake, or screw it onto a standard 28 mm plastic bottle or a gravity hose. The membrane removes bacteria, parasites, microplastics and silt, and is built to clog less than the original LifeStraw. The filter is not replaceable; once it reaches about 4,000 litres water stops flowing. Unused, it keeps indefinitely in an emergency kit.

Worth knowing

It is a filter, so it suits backcountry streams more than chemically questionable water.

Skip it for treating tap water for chlorine, since LifeStraw says its straw filters do not remove chlorine.
