Why it made our lists

  • Gifts for people who love to cook

A straight-walled glass jar with an acacia lid, built for watching a sourdough starter rise. For a baker still using an old jam jar. No starter is included.

What it is

An 800 ml borosilicate glass jar with an acacia wood lid, designed for keeping a sourdough starter. It has straight walls so you can watch the starter rise and a curved base so starter does not get stuck in corners when stirring.

A plain borosilicate glass jar with an acacia wood lid, made to hold a sourdough starter. The straight walls make it easy to see how much the starter has risen; you mark the starting level with a rubber band. A curved inner base means less flour gets stuck in corners when stirring. The lid has a silicone seal, so between bakes it can store flour or coffee.
