Why it made our lists

  • Gifts for people who love to cookBest on a budget

A Pecorino and black pepper blend for fast weeknight cacio e pepe, without grating a block of cheese. A cheap add-on for a pasta lover. It contains cheese, so it is not vegan.

  • Secret Santa gifts under $25

A Pecorino and black pepper blend that turns hot pasta and butter into quick cacio e pepe. For the colleague who brings leftovers for lunch. It contains cheese, so it is not vegan.

What it is

A pepper-forward seasoning blend built on Pecorino and black pepper, developed with a chef who grew up in Italy. Stir into hot pasta with butter, or use on roast vegetables and fritters. Single jar.

A shaker jar of dry seasoning that copies the flavour of the Roman pasta dish: hard sheep cheese powder with black and white pepper and garlic. You toss it through hot pasta with a little butter, or shake it over roast vegetables, fritters or meat. It was developed with a home chef collaborator who grew up in Italy, and it comes in a small glass jar that sits on the spice shelf.
