Why it made our lists

  • Gifts for gardeners

For a gardener who has everything and would rather see money go to a cause. It is a symbolic gift, so the recipient gets a card, not a product.

  • Gifts for a mom who has everything

Funds a hive, bees and training for a family's honey business. For a mom who gardens and has told you she wants nothing. She gets a card, not a product.

What it is

Funds a hive, honeybees and training so a family can start a small honey and pollination business. The recipient gets an e-card, printable card or mailed card.

A charity gift from Plan International Canada that funds a beekeeping start for women in a low-income community. The page says it covers a hive, honeybees, training and the basic equipment needed to begin selling honey, which helps pay for housing, health care and food, while the bees also pollinate nearby crops. The recipient receives the gift as a donation in their name rather than an item. When checked, the page listed it as matched four times.
